How does sensory feedback enable precise movements?

We study how sensory information is represented in the nervous system.

Sensory feedback must be particularly fast and efficient in insect flight, making it a uniquely interesting system for studying how neurons represent sensory information.

• Using electrophysiology experiments, we directly record from sensory neurons to examine how information is represented by their electrical activity.
• Using computational methods, we simulate neural activity to investigate how changes in different properties — like wing stiffness or neural response threshold — impact sensory signals.
